1. FORMAT
A. Use 8 1/2 X 11" or size A4 paper, typed or printed on one side.
B. Please number your pages.
C. Line space 1 1/2 lines if possible.
D. Electronic submissions: Query first, please. Submit .rtf format.
2. STYLE
A. English is a second language for many of our readers. Use international English. Avoid Americanisms, slang and jargon. Avoid Christian cliches.
B. Write in direct, personal, inclusive style. When you rewrite, simplify.
C. Do not submit manuscripts which are written in dissertation style.
D. Use standard American or English spelling. We prefer American spelling (just because the editor spells better in American!)
3. CONTENT
A. Since we are an Asian publisher, we very interested in Asian context books.
B. Submissions should be of interest to Asian readers or to Western readers who are interested in Asia and Asians. Writers need to be familiar with Asian culture and thought.
C. We look for material designed to build up the body of Christ, especially in Asia.
D. We are interested in cutting-edge books which present what God is saying to the church today.
E. CLC Ministries International is traditionally a "deeper-life" publisher. We are looking for original material which communicates the deep truths of life in Christ Jesus in fresh, practical ways.
F. Many English Christian books have been translated in Chinese. Yet there are many Chinese Christians who have something relevant to say to Western Christians. Very little has been done in this area. We would be quite interested in seeing relevant Chinese titles translated into English.
4. A FEW SPECIFIC IDEAS for possible manuscripts
A. A guide to urban ministry to the poor in Asia with practical how-to portions and true experience illustrations.
B. How can Christians minister to prostitutes? This should be written by someone who is actively involved in reaching prostitutes in Asia for Christ.
C. Something for the large numbers of Christian English teachers in China. Perhaps suggestions on how to incorporate the Bible into teaching programs in China. How to teach the Bible as literature? The author needs to be someone with hands-on experience and field-testing opportunities.
5. WORKING TOGETHER
As a writer, you need an opportunity to share your message. As a publisher, we need to do our best to select manuscripts which will reach our target audience effectively and which have something relevant to say. Some of the most effective books result from the active collaboration of writers with publishers. We are happy to discuss manuscripts that are still in the developmental stages.
6. PERSONAL CHARACTER
Since we publish Christian books, the life-style and faithful Christian witness of our authors are a major consideration. We expect writers to possess a living faith and a good report where they live, work and fellowship. Because our books share Christian spiritual truth in spiritual words, our writers must themselves have a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
If we are not personally acquainted with you, before publishing your submission, we will want to get to know you better. If we think your manuscript may meet our publication needs, we will ask for personal references from your pastor and other members of the Christian community where you live and work. No matter how good your manuscript, if you are not actively living a Christian life in matters of fellowship, morality, faith and witness, we will not consider publishing your manuscript.
7. SUBMISSIONS
A. Please state clearly your target audience and your main point or theme. Tell why your book is relevant and how it differs from other books currently available. This part should not exceed one page.
B. Give an outline or brief synopsis of your book. If available, you may send us 2-3 chapters (not exceeding 20-30 pages) of your book.
C. Tell us about yourself: basic facts and education, a very brief testimony about how you came to faith in Christ Jesus, your current church affiliation, etc. This part need not exceed one page.
D. If you wish your submission returned, please enclose a self-addressed envelope and the appropriate number of International Postage Coupons.
